Project
#7, Part 3: Interiors
Objective
The client would like you
to use color and tecture to help define spaces/uses. In selecting colors, think
about how the space is being used and the atmosphere you wish to create. You
should also develop simple 3-d models of furnishings. These may be left white,
but time allowing, can receive color treatment as well.
Interior
All furniture was built
from museum board, colored with markers and color pencil. For specific details,
plexiglas was used.
Living / Sleeping
Area:
|
The living
area remains connected as one large space, reinforced by a common wall
color. Because this hous is designed for a painter, I left the walls white.
Also, the large windows will cause different coloration throughout the
day through natural light.
The plant partially conceals the entrance into the private area.
As seen in the photo on the left, the low wall on the bed alcove
blocks it from views from the living area.
The tall closet in the bedroom is replaced with a lower dresser.
The tall closet interrupted the notion of both rooms as one large space.
The floors in the public area remain hardwood, the private area
uses carpet.
A coat hanger separates the entrance from the main area, creating
a transition space.
|
Bathroom:
|
The bathroom
received a treatment in light azure, offsetting the warm exterior colors.
The shower stall is constructed from plexi glass
A tall mirror was added.
|
Kitchen:
|
The kitchen
counter was redesigned. The ugly wooden counter and the tall refridgerator
were replaced by en integrated counter made from black granite.
The counter provides partial separation of the kitchen area while
leaving the spaces connected.
|
Exterior
|
I chose 4 different
colors for the building exterior:
- The roof
is dark grey / anthrazite
- The South and West walls of the main living area are siena.
- The North and East walls of the main living area are grey.
- The bathroom and the entrance are white.
The warm colors are facing South and West, representing the warm
color of the sun.
The cool gray is mostly facing North.
The exterior color palette supports the definition of space.
|
|
Visitors approach
the house from Southeast.
The structure presents itself as a collection of shapes defined
by different ceiling heights and exterior colors.
The entrance
is highlighted by a white wall segment.
